The General Assistance program provides temporary financial assistance to eligible individuals and families who are unable to meet their basic needs due to an emergency, crisis, or unforeseen circumstances. The program is intended to be a last resort for those who have exhausted all other resources and have no other means of support. It is designed to meet the basic needs of eligible applicants, such as food, shelter, and utilities, and to provide assistance for emergency situations and crisis needs. Our goal is to help eligible applicants become self-sufficient and self-supporting as soon as possible. The program is administered in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth in the Town of Van Buren's General Assistance Ordinance.
